CEC administers oath to new ECP members
ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (retd) Sardar Raza Khan on Wednesday administered oath to the four new members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).The ceremony was held at the Election Commission Secretariat and attended by the senior lawyers and former bureaucrats.Abdul Ghaffar Soomro from Sindh, Justice (retd) Shakeel Baloch from Balochistan, Altaf Ibrahim Qureshi from Punjab and Irshad Qaisar from KP were sworn in to fill the vacancies in the Election Commission of Pakistan. Punjab Rangers, BSF discuss border management By our correspondent LAHORE: The two-day bi-annual talks between the Pakistan Rangers and the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) held here at the Punjab Rangers’ Headquarters in Lahore on Wednesday. According to a spokesman of the Punjab Rangers, matters related to border management and improving coordination between the two forces came under discussion. The host delegation was led by Maj. Gen Umar Farooq Burki while the Indian contingent was headed by BSF Director General KK Sharma. Representatives from the interior ministry, Pakistan Rangers (Sindh), Anti-Narcotics Force and Survey of Pakistan also took part on the opening day of the discussions. The DG-level talks between the two sides are a bi-annual affair, but many a time these meetings have **t taken place due to strain in relations of the South Asian nations. The last such meeting between the BSF and Pakistan Rangers was held in New Delhi in September last year. Commodore Asad promoted to Rear Admiral ISLAMABAD: Commodore Syed Asad Karim SI(M) of Pakistan Navy has been promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral, a Pak Navy press release said on Wednesday. Rear Admiral Syed Asad Karim got commission in the Supply Branch of Pakistan Navy in 1984. He is a graduate of the National Defence University, Islamabad, and Royal Military College of Science, UK. He holds Masters Degree in Defence Logistics Management from Cranfield University, UK, and Masters Degree in National Security and War Studies from the Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad. His distinguished appointments include Commanding ******r Submarine Stores Depot, Commanding ******r Naval Stores Depot Director Procurement (Navy) and Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Works). Presently, he is performing duties of Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Supply) at the NHQ. In recognition of his services he has been awarded Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Military). Langov remanded for a**ther 14 days QUETTA: Former adviser to the Balochistan chief minister on finance Mir Khalid Langov has been remanded in the custody of the National Accountability Bureau for a**ther 14 days for interrogation. A NAB Balochistan spokesman said a NAB team presented Langov before an accountability court and sought his remand for a**ther 14 days. Langov is in the NAB custody in a mega corruption case under which former Balochistan finance secretary Mushtaq Ahmed Raisani and some others are already in the custody of the country’s largest anti-corruption organisation.
