A prominent Jewish right-wing activist has been seriously injured in a shooting incident in Jerusalem. Yehuda Glick was shot at close range by a man on a motorcycle outside the Menachem Begin Centre where he?d been advocating Jewish prayer rights at the Temple Mount ? it?s a site considered most sacred to both Jews and Muslims. A Likud party member described the shooting as **thing less than an assassination attempt on a man k**wn for his beliefs. Tensions have once again been raised this week after Israel?s prime minister an**unced the acceleration of plans to build 1,000 new settler homes in East Jerusalem. The victim, Glick was immediately taken to hospital where it as said he had lost a lot of blood and was described as being in a serious but stable condition. Meanwhile at the United Nations in New York the Security Council has warned Israel over its settler homes policy. UN Under Secretary -General for Political Affairs, Jeffrey Feltman told the Council: ?If pursued, these plans would once again raise grave doubts about Israel?s commitment to achieving a durable peace with the Palestinians as the new settlements threaten the very viability of a future State of Palestine.? Palestinians have repeatedly accused the Israeli government and its settler programme as an erosion of any future Palestinian state, of which East Jerusalem is set to be the capital.
