The head of mental health in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Abdulhameed Al-Habeeb, said new regulations for the health and mental care system will be published within the coming few months. He explained the regulations will strengthen the rights of mental patients, especially with regard to service providers, and oblige health facilities to meet international standards. He pointed out five new mental health hospitals are being equipped in addition to a**ther five that are under construction in various parts of the Kingdom. He added that these hospitals will be staffed by specialized cadre from outside the country and provide training for Saudis to fill the current shortage of qualified medical professionals in the mental health sector.
