THE Merseyside celebrities who were treated at Liverpool Heart and Chest hospital

</p> LIVERPOOLâ??S Heart and Chest hospital is no stranger to press attention – from pioneering new techniques to winning top NHS awards.

But it has also found itself in the limelight for the famous patients it has seen.

Former Liverpool FC manager Gerard Houllier was treated there after being struck down by a dissected aorta during a Liverpool game. He had 11-hours of surgery to repair the damage in October 2001.

Meanwhile, Merseybeat legend Gerry Marsden had triple by-pass surgery there back in 2003.

Past patients also include Ricky Tomlinson who had a four-way-heart by-pass in October 2007.

The comedian and actor was on the road again just weeks later with a fundraising show called â??More Bypasses than the AA Road Atlasâ?* and was joined on stage by other by-pass survivors including ECHO editor Alastair Machray.
