Sgt Pepper artwork by Sir Peter Blake sells for آ£55,000
</p> AN ORIGINAL piece of artwork created for the Beatlesâ?? ground-breaking Sgt Pepper album sold for آ£55,000 at auction. The 1967 collage for the insert of the album was made by Sir Peter Blake and was included in a sale of modern and post-war British art held at Sothebyâ??s in London. The rare and highly influential work was on the market for the first time and sold for آ£55,250. It came from the collection of architect Colin St John â??Sandyâ?* Wilson (1922-2007), one of the most important collectors and supporters of British art in the post-1950 period. James Rawlin, Sothebyâ??s senior specialist in modern British paintings, said the un-named buyer had â??acquired a piece of musical history.â?* He added: â??Sir Peter Blakeâ??s unique collage marks an exciting moment in British culture, when music and art united with powerful effect. The strong price achieved for the work attests to the enduring appeal of not only the artist and the Beatles, but of an entire cultural movement.â?* The artwork for the Sgt Pepper album is as famous as the music. Peter Blake worked closely with Paul McCartney and John Lennon to create the distinctive imagery.
