Drummer Red Carter to be laid to rest in Wirral this week
</p> ONE of Liverpoolâ??s greatest drummers will be laid to rest later this week. Celebrities Ken Dodd and Ricky Tomlinson were among those paying tribute to Wirral-born Red Carter after he died at the age of 92. Red â?? real name Ernie Carter â?? took up the drums as a child and earned his nickname because of the colour of his hair. He became one of the most prominent jazz and big band drummers of his generation, playing with his own band and backing a host of household names at the cityâ??s Cabaret Club in Duke Street. He played with many of the countryâ??s top artists including Vera Lynn, Lonnie Donegan and Cleo Laine. Mr Carterâ??s funeral will take place at 11am at Landican Crematorium on Friday March 22. Family and friends will meet after at The Sacred Hearts Centre in Moreton.
