Chris Evans receives the blessing of Top Gear?s former hosts
</p>Chris Evans has revealed he has received the blessing of Top Gearâ??s former hosts, after it was announced he would be taking over the hit motoring show. The Warrington-born presenter said he had texted the trio – Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May – before the announcement was made yesterday. Speaking on his Radio 2 breakfast show earlier, he said Richard Hammond had wished him good luck and assured him he â??didnâ??t blame himâ?* for taking the job. He added Jeremy Clarkson had also wished him â??the best of luckâ?*. The rest of the Top Gear line-up is yet to be confirmed but Formula 1 presenter Suzi Perry was in the audience of Chrisâ?? TV show TFI Friday last week. TV presenter Jodie Kidd is another favourite to appear alongside the broadcaster, according to bookmaker Ladbrokes. But Car enthusiast Chris, who had previously ruled himself out of joining the show, said he would not have a female co-presenter just â??for the sake of itâ?*. He told Radio 5 live: â??I want to have people who are extremely knowledgeable about cars… people who have great energy, good timing… who are keen to do things differently.â?* Clarksonâ??s contract was not renewed after he punched a Top Gear producer in March. Chris, originally from Padgate, had said he had wanted Top Gear to carry on with Richard and James and had not wanted to “contaminate the situation” by throwing his hat in the ring. He said: “Whenever I said ‘I categorically rule myself out of running for office’, it was because I didn’t want to be a pawn in a chess game involving three of my friends.” The situation changed this week with the former presenters confirming they would not continue on the programme in Jeremy Clarkson’s absence.
