Henry Vaughan's account of a visit to the Naples Riviera dates from the early twentieth century. Reading this alongside a contemporary visit to the city provides a wonderful opportunity to understand at least one of the layers of history that collide in Naples. Vaughan's book also challenges the reader's assumptions about Naples past and present.
