ISLAMABAD: Chairman Hurriyat Forum in occupied Kashmir, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, took an early flight to New Delhi on Monday to appear before the infamous India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with a fake case registered against him.According to the Kashmir Media Service, the NIA served him three notices. The decision to appear before the NIA was taken by the Mirwaiz on Sunday following an executive meeting of the Hurriyat Forum. It was also decided that executive members of the forum would accompany the Mirwaiz to the Indian capital.In a statement issued in Srinagar, the forum said despite having nothing to do with the matter the Mirwaiz through his legal counsel had said he was ready to cooperate in the investigation but had asked the agency to hold it in Srinagar as he had several genuine concerns, including serious security concerns in New Delhi. The forum added the NIA refused to conduct the investigation in Srinagar. Separately, All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman Syed Ali Geelani strongly condemned the summoning of his son Dr Naeem Geelani by the NIA, saying New Delhi was harassing and intimidating his family members just to pressurise him.In a statement, Geelani said: “We have explained our point of view in closed doors as well as in the public. I have been caged in my four-walled residence for the past nine years, not to talk of any political activity. I have not been allowed to attend any social function also…after putting a siege around me they have targeted my family particularly two sons.“Earlier my younger son Dr Naseem Geelani was summoned by both the NIA and the Enforcement Directorate and now my elder son Dr Naeem has been called by the NIA to Delhi. Naeem is a heart patient under regular supervision of doctors and psychological stress can prove fatal for him.”He added: “If questioning anybody, including my son, is must they can do so in the Valley. New Delhi is harassing and intimidating my family just to pressurise me, but these cowardly acts will yield nothing.”
