افتراضي Sindh Assembly to amend Police Act: minister

KARACHI: Amendments will be made in the Police Act to introduce reforms in the policing system of the province.Sindh Local Government minister Saeed Ghani said this while speaking at a press conference on Sunday at the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) media cell.According to Ghani, Sindh was being discriminated against as its Police law was different from that of the other provinces of the country, due to which the Sindh Police was not under the control of the provincial government. He called the lack of provincial government’s authority over Police pitiful.A lot of reforms had to be incorporated in the policing system of the province, the local government minister said. He regretted that on the pretext of ending political interference in the working of the police, the Sindh government was rendered powerless to such an extent that it could not realise its vision of policing in the province.Ghani said that there was no justification to end the government’s control over the provincial Police force. He added that the Police force in all the other provinces was under the control of their respective provincial governments. The minister hoped that the federal government led by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf would not discriminate against Sindh and the province would be duly viewed like the other provinces. To a question, he said arrangements for security and beautification were being made in Karachi as the city was set to host eight matches of the Pakistan Super League.Ghani added that large screens would be installed at various key spots in the city to enable the cricket lovers to watch PSL matches when they would be played in Karachi. He also expressed resentment that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had first arrested Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Khan Durrani without having evidence as the bureau later carried out a search to find proof of corruption against him.Family members of the Sindh Assembly speaker were harassed for several hours when his house was raided while the NAB chairman did not take notice of this incident of harassment, the minister said.During the news conference, Ghani, who is also the president of the Karachi chapter of the ruling PPP, announced that a number of eminent people from different walks of life and professions had decided to join the PPP to serve the masses. He welcomed those newcomers to the party.Sindh Assembly amend Police Act:
