Ag AgenciesPESHAWAR/QUETTA: women and children among 14 people died and several injured in rain-related incidents in North & South Waziristan and Balochistan on Sunday.Nine persons died and eight persons were injured in the separate roof collapse incidents in South Waziristan and North Waziristan districts as rain and snowfall continued in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on fourth consecutive day on Sunday.Though the weather turned sunny in the provincial capital in the afternoon, intermittent rain and snowfall continued in the mountainous areas. A woman and four children died and eight other persons sustained injuries in separate roof collapse incidents in Sarwakai and Wana tehsil in South Waziristan, official sources said.The two children were identified as Anees, one-year-old and Zaheera aged three. The local people rushed to the spot and pulled out the bodies from the rubble.In Wana tehsil, two children were killed and four others injured in a roof collapse incident. The identity of the victims could not be established. The injured were taken to a hospital in Wana.The upper parts of South Waziristan, including Badar, Kaniguram, Ladha and Makeen received heavy snowfall.These areas received three to five feet snowfall that has also blocked the Wana-Razmak Road. The army was using heavy machinery to remove the snow.Four people, including two children, died and one person was injured in separate roof collapse incidents in Shewa and Dossali tehsils in North Waziristan, local sources said.The source said that a woman and a child died while a man was injured when the roof of a mud-house collapsed in Raghzani area in Shewa tehsil in North Waziristan.In another similar incident, a man and a child were killed in a roof collapse incident in Mandokhel area in Dossali sub-division in Razmak.North Waziristan has received heavy rain and snowfall in the last four days. The rains had weakened the structures which collapsed causing the deaths.Chief minister's advisor on merged districts, Ajmal Wazir, called on the chief minister and informed him about the loss of life and injuries caused to the people in North and South Waziristan districts.Also, at least three houses and a number wall collapsed in Orakzai district due to snowfall in three-days, officials said. They said that snowfall also blocked various link roads, creating a shortage of eatables in various areas. Locals said the roof of the house of Muhammad Younas collapsed in Dabori area while two houses collapsed in Yakhkandaw. The people of the area demanded the authorities make arrangements to reopen the blocked roads.Several houses were damaged in the recent rains in the Mohmand tribal district. There were, however, no human losses.The roof and boundary wall collapse incidents were reported from Ghaziabad, Garbaz and Tora Tiga in the Safi Tehsil.The landslide triggered by rains and snowfall blocked several roads in upper parts of Hazara division and Chitral district.The rain and snowfall continued intermittently the entire day, plunging the mercury to freezing point in the mountainous parts.The Oghi-Darband road was blocked at various places suspending traffic.In Lower Dir, Deputy Commissioner Shaukat Ali Yousafzai ordered the closure of 39 state-run schools owing to heavy rains and snowfall.According to a notification, the government-run schools both male and female located in hilly areas of the district would remain closed from March 4 to March 10. It may be mentioned here that the routine two-month winter vacation end on March 4.However, due to heavy rains and snowfall on hilltops in charge of schools situated in hilly areas has reported to the office of the deputy commissioner regarding the situation created by the weather.Meanwhile, at least five people, including children, were killed in rain related incidents in different districts of Balochistan on Sunday.The deaths had taken place after intense rain and floods damaged houses. Pak-Iran railway service remained suspended after over 600 metre railway track was damaged because of heavy rain. Separately eight people were injured due to rains related incidents in different areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday morning.According to Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) six people were injured in Kohat and one each in Tank and Upper Dir.Meanwhile, the security forces have been moved to assist civil administration in rescue and relief operations for flood victims in various parts of Balochistan.Approximately 1,500 families have been rescued in Dureji (Lasbela) and Qillah Abdulla areas, while rations have been provided to 3,500 families in the rain-affected areas, said Inter Services Public Relations Sunday while updating on the relief and rescue operations in the flash flood-hit areas of Balochistan.Army doctors and paramedics are providing first aid medical assistance and medicines to the affected people. Army aviation helicopters are busy in rescuing stranded people to safer places.Relief camps have been established in Mekran, Lasbela and snow covered areas of Northern Balochistan. Stranded vehicles at Khojak pass, Lak pass and Shela Bagh areas have been rescued by the security forces.Rain, snowfall: Balochistan, Waziristan
