Hear Orlando Bloom?s Botched Katy Perry Proposal Story

When a guy gets serious and decides, Hey, I’m going to propose, there are a lot of details to think about: the ring, the location, and, apparently, the helicopter. But, as the cliché goes, the best way to make God laugh is tell him your plans. And from the sound of it, Orlando Bloom told God all about his plans to propose to Katy Perry and God got to work.

This week, Katy Perry went on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to discuss her career and relationship with Bloom. They apparently met when he stole an In-N-Out burger from her (respect), and they’ve been together ever since. But this Valentine’s Day, when Bloom was prepping for the big moment, it all went to hell (in a helicopter).

According to Perry, Bloom rented the chopper to propose, and once inside, he planned to hand Perry a note with everything he wanted to say. A little informal, but fine. While she was reading it, he would pull out the ring, propose, and they’d have champagne.

Now here comes the twist: The ring box was too big for his coat pocket, and when he jerked it out, he ripped the pocket, elbowed the bottle of champagne so hard that it broke, and, because all of this happened inside a helicopter, they were presumably covered in champagne and love for one another. Now they’re engaged. That’s what marriage looks like, y’all.

Fortunately, the back half of the evening went according to plan, Perry said. The couple landed on a rooftop, where friends and family met them for an impromptu engagement party. All of that goes to show that even if you don’t measure your coat pocket for ring box size, there’s still hope. Even the richest people in the world are ergonomically inept.<em/>
