ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) today rejected former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s plea seeking suspension of his jail sentence on medical grounds in Al-Azizia reference.An accountability court had awarded him seven-year jail and Rs1.5 billion fine in the case last year.A two-member bench of IHC, comprising Aamir Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani announced the short order today. The detailed verdict is expected soon.The bench had reserved the verdict on February 20.Khawaja Haris Advocate told the court that his client was unwell and all the reports had suggested his angiography. He said the matter had become very sensitive.Haris argued that Nawaz was suffering from different diseases and it’s happing because of tense atmosphere in the jail.Later, talking to the media after the verdict, PML-N leaders said they accept the order. We will use all the legal options available including challenging the verdict.We accept the verdict and further action will be taken in light of legal options available, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said."The medical boards have recommended that the PML-N supremo needs urgent cardiac treatment and this is not possible in jail that’s why we have sought bail," he added.
