Father and teenage son accused of keeping man as ?slave? for two years

A Father and son have appeared in court charged with holding a man as a slave for two years.

Anthony Baker, 48, and 19-year-old Harvey Baker are alleged to have kept the man in Neath and made him work without pay.

Both defendants are charged with an offence under the Modern Slavery Act and six counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The pair, who live at Earlswood Cottages, Jersey Marine, Neath, denied all the charges against them when they appeared at Swansea Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.

Abul Hussain, prosecuting, said the said the Bakers kept their alleged 20-year-old victim as a slave for two years and used him as a worker.

Solicitors Craig Harding, for Anthony Baker, and Rebecca Carter, for Harvey Baker, said their clients denied the charges.

Magistrates declined jurisdiction in the case and the matter was committed to Swansea Crown Court for a hearing on Monday.

Both men were remanded in custody until that date.
