I am hoping to get a small lorry built by a reputable local company. My prospective new horse is likely to weigh 700 kg or just over, and the 3.5 ton I was considering has a payload of 1.2 tons. I was therefore considering uprating to 3.9 tons to be 100% certain of being within the limit with full tank of fuel, 1-2 passengers, tack, water etc etc. However, my husband is 72, and had to renew his licence at 70. Apparently you have to specifically state that you want to keep your ability to drive up to 7.5 ton or you lose it. So I think this means that he would have to do a test to drive 3.9 tons but would be okay to drive 3.5 tons? Frustrating as he also once had an HGV licence (also lapsed). So if I get 3.9 ton, it would be me doing all the driving unless he does another test?I just wanted to check that I've interpreted it all correctly!
