ok so i just bought a new horse and hes called Fernando. hes an 11yo 16.2hh ISH. i love him to bits and hes the best horse ever, but is he too much for me? one day i was riding and all was well. i was just doing flatwork same old same old when i decided to set up a TINY cross pole. i cantered him round, we jumped it no bother. but, after the jump, he started bucking. i think it mightve been because i didnt sit up immediately. i tried to slow him down but he took off in a gallop around the arena. i eventually stopped him and decided that was enough for the day. a couple days after me and my sister were riding. she rides a small 19yo connie X cob, 14.2hh. probably the slowest thing ever, but shes only 10. she decided to put up a crosspole to go over. i wadn?t jumping that day so i just decided to continue with flatwork while she cracked on. Fernando i think got pissed he wasnt jumping cause he wasnt jumping and took off, but this time i couldnt stop him and i came off and tore ligaments in my foot. now, i dont know how im going to go about beginning to jump him. but the thing is ive jumped fernando before and there was no trouble at all. maybe it was because the old owner was there last time and it was just me and him this time. the old owner is at the same yard as me now, and he can help me. But, hes a massive strong man and even though im strongly built and tall, im nowhere near as strong as the man. Fernando only rides in a snaffle and some are suggesting i get a stronger bit, but im scared that would make him resent me, but when he goes fast like that i cant pull him back. im not scared of him or dont like him anymore, im just unsure about how to start jumping him without coming off every time cause he gets so excited because he loveeeesss jumping. HELP!!!
