LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said the government will continue Serving people with dedication despite the hue and cry of the opposition. In a statement here on Tuesday, he said the Punjab government?s efforts for increasing enrolment in schools and reducing the drop-out ratio proved fruitful. He said outsourcing of schools helped improve the quality of education. The outsourcing model would be further promoted, he said, adding that teachers were architects of bright future of the country and giving them a high social status and respect was a PML-N moral obligation. He said provision of best healthcare and educational facilities to people was among top priorities of the Punjab government. The use of information technology in education gave wonderful results. Thousands of classrooms were being constructed in public schools across the province. Rs 8 billion were being spent for repair of dilapidated school buildings, he said and added that it was satisfying to note that the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) emerged as the largest stipend programme of its kind in South Asia. Under this programme, more than Rs 15.5 billion were distributed among the needy but bright students as stipend. The number of PEEF scholars had risen to 3.5 lakh. ?Serving the hapless communities is my mission and no stone will be left unturned to rid people of their deprivations,? he said.
Meanwhile, the chief minister expressed sorrow over the death of Malik Ashiq Hussain Awan, former MPA. In a condolence message, he prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to his family to bear the loss with fortitude.Shahbaz also condoled the death of four members of a family in a road accident on the Indus Highway near Rajanpur.
