Russell wins a Super Over thriller for Islamabad United
SHARJAH: Islamabad United defeated Lahore Qalandars in a Super Over thriller in Sharjah on Friday. Lahore Qalandars won the toss and invited Islamabad United to bat first. Islamabad United scored 121 runs for the loss of nine wickets. JP Duminy was top scorer with 34 runs, while Hussain Talat scored 33 runs.
Yasir Shah was the pick of bowlers for Qalandars with three wickets, Sohail Khan took two wickets, and Fakhar Zaman and Salman Irshad took one wicket each. Lahore Qalandars batsmen showed dismal performance again despite a better start by Brendon McCullum (34) and Aga Salman (48). The scores were levelled when Qalandars lost their last wicket and the match was decided through a Super Over. Muhammad Sami and Samit Patel took three wickets each for United, while Shadab Khan, Russell and Faheem Ashraf got one wicket each.Islamabad United got a target of 16 runs in the Super Over and achieved it due to brilliant batting of Russell. He hit a four and six off last two balls to pull a thriller for his team. Muhammad Sami was declared man of the match.
