Rippon, a figure skater who has been open about his sexuality since 2015, ruffled Pence's feathers before heading to Pyeongchang, South Korea, when he reportedly refused to meet with the VP after publicly criticizing Pence's problematic stances on LGBTQ+ rights. When posting a photo of the pair on his Instagram, Kenworthy - who came out after medaling in the last Winter Olympics - added that cheeky "Eat your heart out, Pence" to his caption.
"We're here. We're queer. Get used to it," Kenworthy posted on Twitter With a few more photos. Rippon expanded a bit more about his feelings walking as a proud gay man in the opening ceremony. "Representing the USA is one of the greatest honors of my life," he wrote in a tweet accompanying a Photo With Kenworthy, "And being able to do it as my authentic self makes it all so much sweeter."
Though Pence's camp has denied that he supports gay conversion therapy, his overall record on LGBTQ+ issues instills no confidence. Kenworthy and Rippon have certainly made their feelings clear about the VP's regard for the gay community, and we're sure to see even more out-and-proud moments from them during the rest of the Games. Check out their cute photos below, then read up on where and when to watch them over the next two weeks!
Tonight I walked in the #OpeningCeremony and got to watch my old friend @Yunaaaa light the Olympic flame.
