I've a rising 6 year old who, after proper work (not general hacking) has a small lump pop up on her spine under the saddle. The lump is around an inch wide and would be about 1/2 high, it is hard, but if you prod at it, she isn't bothered. It then goes down after about 5 minutes and cannot be seen.I have been told by two saddlers not to worry and that it is weakened blood vessels which some horses are prone too, and unlikely to go away.Because she is growing and filling out I have been told to ride with a back pad to lift the saddle and make her rounder. I use a sheepskin saddlecloth (top part sheepskin) along with a gel pad and her saddle fits well.I've the saddler coming back out next Wednesday, because I am a paranoid mum! but just wanted to check that the info ive been told is consistent with others experiences?Has anyone else experienced the same and managed to prevent it happening?I did wonder if a saddle with a wider gullet would be more suitable?Thoughts/ help/ advice!
