Not my Horse. But a friend of a friends Horse tragically lost her Horse. I am curious as to what Your opinions are. The Vet in question is no longer a vet (don't know if it has anything to do with the below situation) I do know that an official complaint was raised against her for this though. Only curious as was discussing this with some Horsey friends and got a very 50/50 response. 12YO Cob who seemed a bit lethargic and labored breathing, vet was called who observed Horse and said she was sure Horse had a chest infection so prescribed anti-biotics, bute and boxrest. Horse still passing water/poo (not alot of either though) 2 days later owner was really not happy with the Horses symptoms and said despite the bute and anti-b's the Horse seemed to be worse (this was about 7pm). She rang the vet who advised to give an extra bute as it was just the infection (Horse was standing at the back of the stable shaking all over and dripping with sweat) an hour passed and the owner rang vet and insisted vet come to see Horse as bute had done nothing. The vet agreed and said she will be there as quick as she could (she doesn't live far) owner had the impression though that vet thought this was a waste of time as the infection would pass on its own. An hour later still no vet, unfortunately the Horse took a massive turn the worse and collapsed on the door of the stable which came off the hinges. Horse was unable to get up at this point but was desperately trying to move, shuffled out the door (I have been told to think "army crawl") whilst the liveries were desperately throwing bedding on the ground as the Horse was scraping himself against the concrete and cutting himself. He got a short while away from his stable and then he died on the floor. Owner was obviously distraught so another livery called the vet who said she was still on her way and was she still needed as Horse had died. Livery told the vet she needed to be there to explain to the owner why her Horse had died. She eventually turned up. Horse had a PM which showed Ruptured Colon. The result would have been the same, but owner said if vet got there in a timely matter Horse could have been PTS before he collapsed, also to mis diagnose him lead the Horse to suffering for a few days.Half of my friends have said they would take legal action, the other half have said vet is only human and made a mistake.
