Judicial Commission okays name of LHC CJ to SC
ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on Thursday recommended the elevation of Chief Justice Lahore High Court Justice Mansoor Ali Shah to the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The meeting of the Judicial Commission for appointment of judges in the superior courts was held here in the Supreme Court building, presided over by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar being the Chairman of the commission. During the meeting, the Commission recommended elevation of Chief Justice Lahore High Court Justice Mansoor Ali Shah to the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Similarly, the Commission also recommended Justice Yawar Ali Khan as the new Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court. It is pertinent to mention here that Justice Yawar Ali was one of the members of the Special Court hearing the high treason case against former military dictator General (retd) Pervez Musharraf for imposing emergency rule in 2007. The Judicial Commission also recommended six names for appointment to the Sindh High Court (SHC) as additional judges.Similarly, the Ccmmission recommended two District and Sessions Court judges Ishrat Ali Shah and Kausar Sultana Hussain, besides recommending names of four lawyers including Adnan Iqbal Chaudhry, Amjid Ali Sahito, Agha Faisal and Shamsuddin Abbasi for appointment as additional judges for a year. At present, out of the totalstrength of 40 judges, 33 judges are working in the SHC. The Judicial Commission was constituted under the 18th Constitutional Amendment.
