Kerala witnessed the participation of all 14 districts as it celebrated 50 years of the Special Olympics program worldwide. A mega event, titled 'Ekata', was organised which brought together 15000 athletes and 5000 others in a unified march to celebrate the occasion. A classical flash mob of 100 dancers led by Thara Kalyan and Soubhagya Kalyan was held, which enthralled the people. The state of Kerala ignited the Special Olympics torch of hope on the 1st of January 2018, celebrating 50 years of Special Olympics to kick start the State Athletic Meet.
