Money brought home to get legal cover: Miftah
RAWALPINDI: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance Miftah Ismail Thursday said the government would give legal protection to the Money that Pakistanis were keeping abroad so that they could bring it back.
Talking to Geo News, he said tax-evaders would not be allowed to do business in future, while the ratio of taxes would be reduced during the current financial year. He said the government would not issue development funds on political basis. ?We have broken the backbone of terrorists and won the war against terrorism. Our armed forces have successfully accomplished a task that the Nato forces could not do in 15 years,? he said. Miftah said gas shortage would come to an end within two or three days. He said the current account deficit would not be allowed to exceed more than 5 percent, while trade deficit would not be let surpass more than 4 percent by increasing exports. He said there was need to pay attention to the agricultural sector, while the export of fruits and vegetables could be increased. He said exports to Africa and Middle East could be raised. Miftah said the government had started taking steps to win the support of traders and industrialists in the last few months of its tenure. He said the government would return the traders? Rs200 billion dues adding that he had asked the FBR to chalk out a plan within one month in this regard. He said the tax network would be expanded and tax ratio decreased during the current financial year. He said the government?s package had led to an increase in exports and decrease in imports.The adviser said regulatory duty was levied on fruits and vegetables.
