افتراضي Government again fails to table Fata Reforms Bill in NA

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly session was again prorogued on Thursday for lack of quorum, as the opposition walked out of the House to protest the delay by the Government in tabling the Fata Reforms Bill.

The opposition parties walked out of the House at the start of proceedings against non-inclusion of Fata Reforms Bill in the agenda and then pointed out the lack of quorum leading to suspension of proceedings. The quorum could not be completed on resumption, leaving the speaker with no option but to prorogue the session.

?The Government has crushed the hopes of the people of Fata for the sake of its political interests,? PPP leader Syed Naveed Qamar said before walking out of the House. He maintained that the opposition would not compromise on the interests of the tribal people and continue to boycott the proceedings till the introduction of Bill in the assembly. He said the Government should now learn lessons from its mistakes.

Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions (Safron) Abdul Qadir Baloch said the Government is committed to moving the Bill in the National Assembly. However, he asked the opposition to give the Government some more time so that the legislation could be made acceptable to all the stakeholders and political parties.

He maintained that the PML-N, which had taken up the task of implementation of Fata Reforms would fulfill its commitment. Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq has also given the Government the deadline to get the Fata Reforms Bill passed by the National Assembly by December 31.

He has also threatened the Government with staging a sit-in the federal capital along with people from the tribal areas till they were brought into the national mainstream and made a part of the KP province.
