افتراضي Asif demands respect for rights of people under occupation

ISLAMABAD: Successful after being elected member of the Human rights Council (HRC) this year which is a testimony to the confidence reposed in Pakistan by the international community as a consensus builder within the international human rights policy framework, Foreign Minster Khawaja Asif says that the international community should lend its voice and support to the people of Palestine who remain subjected to torture, killings, illegal occupation of their lands and gross violations of their rights and dignity.
Asif?s remarks were contained in a message as the world commemorates Human rights Day today. ?It is important to recognise and demand full respect for the rights of people under continued illegal occupation. Foremost among these are the people of Indian occupied Jammu & Kashmir and Palestine. This day should serve as a reminder for realisation of one of the fundamental rights--right to self-determination,? he noted.
Pakistan also reaffirmed its full diplomatic, political and moral support to the Kashmiri people in the just cause for human dignity, respect and inalienable right to self-determination. Pakistan also calls upon.
In reality, Pakistan has still a long way to go where human rights are related to ordinary Pakistanis, with each day seeing tolerance reaching new heights with outspoken citizens ?disappearing?.
Many who have resurfaced have left the country in fear and others fear to speak freely again. The government, during its tenure, looked the other way as one saw human rights of non-Muslims being violated, while women who suffered say today it is not gender discrimination alone, but rather they are being denied their human rights. The foreign minister, nevertheless, reiterated his government?s commitment to promote and protect human rights and fundamental freedoms as well as needs.
?Pakistan has demonstrated its resolve by enacting wide ranging legislation, establishing strong institutional machinery and putting in place robust policy measures in the field of human rights. Pakistan?s Constitution serves as an anchor and guarantor of fundamental freedoms and human rights of all Pakistanis,? he pointed out.A global message also went out from Pakistan while recognising and demanding full respect for the rights of people under continued illegal occupation. ?Foremost among these are the people of Indian occupied Jammu & Kashmir and Palestine. This day should serve as a reminder for realisation of one of the fundamental rights--right to selfc-determination. Pakistan wishes to reaffirm its full diplomatic, political and moral support to the Kashmiri people in the just cause for human dignity, respect and inalienable right to self-determination,? he said.
