Imran asks PM Abbasi, Zahid Hamid to step down
ISLAMABAD: PTI Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday demanded immediate resignation of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Law Minister Zahid Hamid for totally mishandling the Khatm-e-Nabuwat issue and sit-in.
In a statement, Imran asserted that the law minister should have taken responsibility and resigned much earlier. ?It is time for the Sharif?s puppet PM along with minister for interior to resign at once, as they have totally mishandled a situation that could have been dealt with in a timely and prudent manner,? he noted. He said the government?s stated position was that they would make public Zafarul Haq committee report and punish the guilty and this was also demanded by the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. ?By backtracking on a position and allowing a highly sensitive issue to fester and then conducting an operation that ended in disaster and led to violence spreading across Pakistan, PM Abbasi and minister for interior have brought the country to a dangerous path,? he said. Imran emphasised that by not exposing those responsible, the government had also raised suspicion that there was something sinister to hide just like the DawnLeaks was a deliberate attempt to reiterate the Indian narrative of maligning the Pakistan Army. ?The question that arises is whether the Khatm-e-Nabuwat issue was deliberately created and allowed to linger on in order to play to another powerful lobby cultivated by international forces,? he said. Imran said the government was obsessed with saving the Sharifs mafia and their corruption even if it means destabilising the country and undermining the democratic structure. ?This can?t be allowed to continue.
