Fazl says JUI-F protecting pro-Islamic laws in Constitution
BANNU: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Monday said that his party was protecting the pro-Islamic laws in the Constitution. "The Punjab Assembly didn't enact the Women Protection Bill due to our efforts," he said while speaking at the Ulema Conference here.
He said the JUI-F was playing an important role in national and international politics. The Maulana said though the JUI-F had no majority in the Punjab Assembly, his party succeeded in preventing the bill from becoming the law. He said some political commentators were trying to politicise the issue of tribal areas? merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Maulana said that JUI-F was not against reforms in the tribal areas but it was demanding rights of tribal people. "We want the government to take the opinion of tribespeople in all decisions about the future of Fata," he added. He said he had no personal issues with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) but alleged that the party was promoting a foreign agenda which he termed an attack on Islamic norms and the society. "It is a fight between cultures and the fight would go on," he added. He alleged that the PTI was not elected but brought into power in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
