Actor and comedian Jay Thomas has lost his battle with cancer. The Emmy Award-winning Cheers and Ray Donovan star was 69. His agent, Don Buchwald, confirmed the sad news on Thursday, calling his friend "one of a kind". Thomas picked up two Emmys for his guest appearances as Jerry Gold on Murphy Brown, but he is perhaps best known as former ice hockey player Eddie Lebec on Cheers. Thomas also appeared on Ray Donovan, Law and Order: SVU, and Boston Legal, while his movie roles included arts in Mr. Holland?s Opus and sequels The Santa Clause 2 and The Santa Clause 3. He also hosted The Jay Thomas Show on Sirius XM satellite radio, and became the traditional end-of-year guest on David Letterman's The Late Show. The two friends would close out the Christmas special by trying to hit a cooked turkey on top of a Christmas tree with a football.
