Khursheed contacts parties for joint opposition?s candidate
 ISLAMABAD: The opposition has started efforts to bring a consensus candidate against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate for the prime minister’s slot as Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah on Saturday made contacts with the major opposition parties for holding a joint meeting of parliamentary leaders of the opposition parties for carving out a joint strategy.Khursheed Shah, who arrived in Islamabad on Saturday from Karachi, made telephonic contacts with the Shah Mehmood Qureshi of PTI, Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao of QWP, Amir Jammat-e-Islami Senator Sirajul Haq and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi of the PML-Q to discuss the political situation after the disqualification of Nawaz and to formulate a joint strategy of the opposition in the election of the leader of the House. In his talks with the opposition leaders, Khursheed Shah discussed the possibility of bringing a joint candidate for the election of the leader of the House in the National Assembly and to hold the joint meeting of the parliamentary leaders of opposition parties. It is expected that the meeting will be held today (Sunday) to decide who will be the consensus candidate of the opposition to challenge the PML-N candidate in the election of the prime minister. Meanwhile, speaking at a meeting of the Federal Executive Committee of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) here at the National Press Club, Khursheed Shah said that the **mination of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif as the prime minister is contempt of parliament. He said the that the PML-N wanted to make Shahbaz Sharif the next prime minister which means that it did **t think any one of their members of the National Assembly able to be elected as the prime minister. “It has been proved that the PML-N does **t have any able person in the National Assembly and that is the reason they are brining a candidate from outside,” he added. He said: “Democratic leaders should have taken their strength from parliament and people instead of looking towards powerful institutions for the survival,” he said Khursheed Shah said: "I had been asking Nawaz Sharif from the day one that parliament is the source of strength for him so he should deal it with respect and dignity." The opposition leader said if Nawaz Sharif had **t signed the agreement to leave the country and remained here, the situation would have been different. He said whether anyone could think of it that the government with 2/3rd majority will go so easily. “But they are still making same mistakes as despite having two-thirds majority they are bringing the prime minister from their own family instead of the party,” he added. He said when dictator General Ziaul Haq included articles 62 and 63 in the Constitution then at that time he did **t realise that his political heirs will come under it. The opposition leader said the PML-N gets government without realising the importance of democracy and Parliament and that was the reason that they come into the government easily and also ******* easily. “But contrary to the PML-N, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has rendered sacrifices of lives for the democracy due to which we k**w the importance of democracy and Parliament,” he said and added that the PPP has transferred the government to PML-N after cleaning the country from the dictatorship, the Taliban and foreign bases but what they did with the democracy and Parliament, is regrettable.
