JEDDAH - The head of the Social Initiatives and Programs Department at the Ministry of Interior said Only a small percentage of Saudi youth have extremist tendencies, Makkah daily reported. Abdulaziz Al-Helayel said his department has conducted a number of awareness lectures on the dangers of extremism and extremist ideologies and Only a small number of attendees have expressed their disapproval of the content of the lectures. Al-Helayel said many youth who had extremist tendencies changed their views after taking part in discussions the ministry held and even expressed remorse for their wrong thinking. A combination of programs, symposiums, lectures, and workshops have helped remove any extremist ideologies from society," he said, adding that the ministry is planning to hold a number of such programs during the summer and Haj seasons.
