LAHORE: Punjab Land Record Authority (PLRA) and the Bank of Punjab on Thursday signed an agreement in Model Town under which Arazi Centre counters would be opened in all branches of the bank, providing citizens facilities of getting ownership deeds and other documents.
Addressing the ceremony, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said implementation of these agreements would expand the scope of services, thus facilitating the people with the establishment of counters at all the 450 BoP branches. He said the Punjab government had taken a revolutionary step by computerising the land record of rural areas, while a programme was also been evolved to computerise ‘girdawari system’, which would complete eliminate the patwaris. He remarked that the patwaris would the choice to whether continue government job or lead a peaceful life after depositing the looted money in the exchequer. The chief minister said computerisation of land record had benefited the farmers and eliminated the corrupt system forever. He added that the Land Record Information Management System (LRIMS) was fully operational in 143 tehsils of the province and khidmat centres were providing facilities to the people. However, the services had been outsourced with the agreement signed with the BoP due to a huge number of people at the centres, a process which would be completed by December, he **ted. The chief minister said the outsourcing process started under the agreement with the BoP would be transferred to tehsil and union council level in a few weeks. Shahbaz said he could claim without any fear and hesitation that such system was **t available anywhere in Pakistan; however, they were providing assistance to Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the fields of education, health and others. It was a matter of pride for Punjab government that the LRIMS was introduced under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the province, which had also been helpful in wheat procurement drive and payment of compensation to the flood victims, he said. Shahbaz added that during the current wheat procurement campaign, record was checked under the automatic system during which 17,000 names could **t be verified. He said the PLRA had been established so that ** government in future could damage the system. Answering questions asked by journalists, he said plan had been made to computerise the land record of urban areas on which the work would start soon. Shahbaz said stern action would be taken against the staff involved in corruption. Some had already been jailed with the recovery of looted money, while 452 employees were dismissed from service, he **ted. He said anyone could be part of land grabbing, be it a politician or bureaucrat. He cited the example of Kasur where a Grade 19 deputy secretary was involved in land grabbing. The chief minister said he was thankful to the LHC chief justice who cancelled the deputy secretary’s bail and ensured recovery of 700 kanals of land. Similarly, land was also on Ferozepur Road, he said and remarked that “we will grow flowers after recovering land from ‘qabza mafia’. Separately, the chief minister presided over a meeting which reviewed the prices of edible items and the relief being provided to the people under Ramazan Package.
