In an interview to US newspaper The Washington Post, Aizaz said the counterterrorism campaign launched by the PML-N government and Pakistan Army in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas had sharply reduced terrorism. He said “the relations with Washington are stronger today than at any other time” since the covert American raid that killed al Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad six years ago. Aizaz said the US had given roughly $2 billion a year in aid to Pakistan in the past two decades, the major share of which was aimed at supporting the military. “There are issues on which Pakistan has its own position regardless of what the US stance is,” said Aizaz, **ting that Pakistan was at risk of flooding as Himalayan glaciers melt. “We supported the Paris talks. We committed to it,” he added.
