Mega projects launched to ensure clean water for south Punjab
Shahbaz directs restoration of 800 water schemes
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif chaired a meeting which reviewed progress on various matters of the Punjab water Roadmap on Sunday. Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz said the Punjab government has initiated this Mega project to ensure provision of potable water, for which 25 billion rupees had been allocated. He said this program will furnish natives with their fundamental right of clean drinking water. He said initially this program was started from Punjab while 116 water filtration plants were providing clean drinking water in Bahawalpur and **w this program will be completed soon in tehsils of south Punjab. The Punjab has established two companies for implementation of this program, which are supposed to deliver by taking decisions independently so there is ** need to forward any summary to him, the chief minister directed the concerned authorities. He said professional dishonesty by some ******rs had caused pointless deferral in this project but in-time interference of the Punjab government has figured it out and brought the culprits to book. He directed to restore 800 inactive water schemes till April 2018. The meeting expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of Wasa. Shahbaz directed the concerned authorities to make an effective viable plan and hire capable human resource. He said Punjab has decided to acquire mobile water testing labs and initially water samples will be checked by five mobile water testing labs. Directing to procure mobile water testing labs for 36 districts, the chief minister said framework ought to be auto**mous like drug testing labs. He commended Chairman Planning & Development and Secretary Housing on the splendid step regarding mobile water testing labs. He said chlorination process in tubewells will be the responsibility of deputy commissioner of concerned district. Managing Partner Delivery Associates Sir Michael Barber, other partners of Roadmap Team, Chairman Saaf Pani Company south Ch Arif Saeed, high officials, concerned secretaries attended the meeting. Meanwhile, the CM in his message on the World Environment Day said that rising pollution needs to be controlled as it has become a hindrance in the formation of a healthy society. He said pollution may be of any type. Shahbaz condemned the terrorist attacks in London, and expressed grief over the loss and sympathies with the grieving families.
