Dr Asim?s name was placed on ECL on recommendation of NAB, court directives

KARACHI: The name of former federal minister Dr Asim Hussain was placed on the Exit Control List on the recommendation of National Accountability Bureau as Dr Hussain allegedly committed corruption and corrupt practices, causing loss to the national exchequer worth billions of rupees, interior ministry’s official told the Sindh High court on Tuesday.

Filing the report on the petition of Dr Asim Hussain, who filed an application for deletion of his name from the Exit Control List and return of passport from the SHC, the section ******r of ECL, Ministry of Interior, submitted that NAB recommended the name of the petitioner for placement on ECL on corruption charges.

The section ******r submitted that the petitioner, being a former minister of petroleum and natural resources, was involved in illegal appointment of various managing directors of SSGC, SNGPL, PPL and OGRA and illegal awarding of CNG licenses to favourites and relatives.

He submitted that the name of the petitioner was further placed on the ECL on the direction of Sindh High court on April 6 in compliance of its February 2, 2017 order.

The home department, on the other hand, submitted that the petitioner was ** more required in any other case by the Sindh Police for the purpose of investigation, therefore, the home department has ** objection if the high court accepts the request of the petitioner to its satisfaction enabling the petitioner to undergo medical treatment abroad.

The SHC’s division bench, headed by Justice Mohammad Junaid Ghaffar, directed the federal law ******r and prosecutor NAB to file their respective statements in the petition on May 15.
