Thousands of Russian troops have reportedly invaded the Crimea region of Ukraine. Oops, did I say “invaded” — I’m sorry, I meant to say Russian troops had an “uncontested arrival” for reasons of providing eco**mic assistance (John Kerry’s making Neville Chamberlain look like Patton).

Yesterday after**on, President Obama transmitted this information to Vladimir:

Officials say Obama may retaliate by canceling a trip to Russia this summer for an international summit and could also cut off trade discussions with Moscow. But it’s unclear whether those moves will have any impact on Russia’s calculus in Ukraine, which is at the center of what many see as a tug of war between East and West.

“Any violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity would be deeply destabilizing,” Obama declared Friday in a statement from the White House. Such action by Russia would represent a “profound interference” in matters that must be decided by the Ukrainian people, he said.

Immediately after making that statement, at a DNC fundraiser, Obama convened “happy hour” for Democrats. **, seriously:

“Well, it’s Friday. It’s after 5 o’clock. So, this is **w officially happy hour with the Democratic party,” the president told his cohorts. “I can do that. It is an executive action. I have the authority.”

**t to harsh any Dem’s “happy hour” buzz, but parliament just gave Putin permission to mobilize Russian’s military in Ukraine (which he was doing anyway, but it’s easier to ask forgiveness than permission):

Parliament voted unanimously on the request and also recommended that Moscow’s ambassador be recalled from Washington over earlier comments made by President Obama.

Putin says the move is needed to protect ethnic Russians and the personnel of a Russian military base in Ukraine’s strategic region of Crimea. The request comes a day after President Obama warned Moscow that “there will be costs” if it intervenes militarily in Ukraine.

At this point, the best way for Obama to make Putin nervous would be to tell him “if you like Ukraine, you can keep Ukraine.”

I can’t wait for the Sunday shows tomorrow when Susan Rice says this all grew out of a protest of the movie Doctor Zhivago.

Meanwhile, the confirmed prescience of Sarah Palin on this issue might quite well be a sign of the progressive apocalypse.
