ATC allows Dr Asim to go abroad for treatment
Hussain is under trial for corruption and terrorists' treatment cases. He was released from a sub jail set up at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre on March 31. The ATC ordered him to submit a surety bond amounting to Rs2 million. Earlier, a medical board had advised Dr Asim, the former minister and a close aide of PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, to travel abroad for treatment. However, he could **t leave the country as an identical petition filed by him in the Sindh High Court is still awaiting a reply. The SHC is expected to decide on the petition within a week about the removal of his name from the Exit Control List. The Rangers prosecutor told the court that Dr Asim will **t return to the country if he was allowed to go abroad on the pretext of treatment. On Thursday, the SHC sought comments from the National Accountability Bureau chairman, provincial police chief and others on the plea filed by Dr Asim for the removal of his name from the Exit Control List. Dr Asim was bailed out in over Rs479 billion corruption and terrorist treatment cases. However, his name was included in the ECL on the court directives. His both Canadian and Pakistani passports were also deposited with the Nazir of the court. Earlier on Wednesday, Dr Asim approached the SHC through his lawyer requesting it to remove his name from the ECL in order to allow him to travel abroad for medical treatment. He had told the court that a medical board had recommended him spinal surgery, which would be carried out abroad.
