Muslims should shun sectarianism: Imam-e-Ka?aba Saudi minister says military alliance to fight enemies; Fazl says international institutions big failure; JUI-F centenary celebrations begin

**WSHERA: The Imam of the Ka’aba Sharif, Sheikh Saleh bin Muhammad Ibrahim, called upon the Muslims across the world to shun sectarianism.

The three-day centenary celebrations of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam began on Friday at Azakhel where a large number of party workers and sympathisers had gathered to attend the congregation.

The “Tasees Jamiat Ijtimah” formally started with the Friday sermon delivered by Sheikh Saleh bin Muhammad Ibrahim, the Imam of the Ka’aba Sharif in Makkah. He also led the Friday prayers.

Addressing the gathering, Saudi Minister Saleh bin Abdul Aziz Al-Sheikh said the Islamic military alliance being formed under the leadership of his country would prove to be a symbol of the Muslim unity. He warned the enemies of Islam of dire consequences if they did **t change their anti-Muslim policies.

He said that the event organised by the JUI-F was a representative congregation of the Ummah as it had representation of Ulema. The minister praised JUI-F’s efforts to protect the faith of Muslims. “Before the establishment of Pakistan, the JUI fought against the British Raj and protected mosques and seminaries,” he said. He said that the congregation was a message for the world that Islam is a religion of peace and that the Muslims wanted universal brotherhood.

The minister said that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia were like two brothers and were united in protection of Islam and Ka’aba.“Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have strong military, eco**mic, cultural and religious relations that are getting stronger with each passing day,” he maintained.

Referring to the formation of the Saudi-led military alliance, he said that it was the victory of the entire Islamic world.Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman had invited Imam-e-Ka’aba Sheikh Saleh bin Muhammad Ibrahim, Religious Affairs Minister of Saudi Arabia Saleh bin Abdul Aziz Al-Sheikh, and other religious scholars and dignitaries to attend the centennial celebrations.

A**ther Imam of Ka’aba Sharif Abdur Rahman Sudais had also been invited but he couldn’t come due to his illness.Hundreds of thousands of people from across the province gathered for the Friday prayers and took part in the centenary event held at the vast venue of Azakhel village.

Speaking on the occasion, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that international institutions had failed in resolving the problems across the globe. “The chaos in the world is due to the failure of the international institutions,” he added. He said that the congregation’s objective was to remind the world the need for the resolution of disputes around the world through peaceful means.

He said that conflicts in Iraq, Palestine, Kashmir, Syria and other countries were examples of failure of international institutions.Around 700 horseback riders arrived at the congregation from southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The horsemen were holding JUI-F flags. They presented a traditional dance after their arrival much to the applause of the crowd.

Stick-wielding JUI-F workers in Khaki shalwar-qameez performed security duties at the event. The organisers said that ambassadors of 38 Islamic countries in Pakistan, administrator of Darul Uloom Deoband in India, Maulana Abul Qasim **mani, JUI India chief Maulana Syed Arshad Madani and his party’s secretary general Maulana Asad Madani also attended the event. Pandith Jenalal represented the Hindus of India at the gathering.

JUI Bangladesh chief Maulana Obaidullah Farooqi along with Maulana Mufti Masood Karim was also present on the occasion.According to the organisers, around 1,000 representatives from the Islamic countries were attending the event. The celebrations started late due to the closure of the Grand Trunk Road due to the rush of the people and vehicles. This forced thousands of people to reach the venue of the event on foot. The delegation from Bahrain was also stuck in the traffic on the road.
