New Wirelessly Powered Scalable Retinal Prosthesis
A collaboration between researchers at University of California San Diego and Na**vision Biosciences, a university spi**ff, has developed a method for constructing Wirelessly Powered Retinal prostheses that interface directly with Retinal cells. Primary cortical neurons cultured on the surface of an array of optoelectronic na**wires. Here a neuron is pulling the na**wires, indicating the the cell is doing well on this material. The implant is structured from photosensitive silicon na**wires and, because they produce a textured surface, Retinal cells are able to grow on them. Powering the array is a **vel wireless system, that sits on the head near the eye, and provides current to all the na**wires simultaneously. *Changes in light incident onto the na**wires produces a change in the electric signal delivered to cells on the other side of the implant. The structure of na**wires can be made to be of any size and shape, allowing it to be customized for different ocular anatomies, and the density of the na**wires is much higher than the pixel density of existing Retinal prostheses. The new device was tested in the eyes of lab rats. Here’s a short summary according to UCSD: For proof-of-concept, the researchers inserted the Wirelessly Powered na**wire array beneath a transgenic rat retina with rhodopsin P23H k**ck-in Retinal degeneration. The degenerated retina interfaced in vitro with a microelectrode array for recording extracellular neural action potentials (electrical “spikes” from neural activity).Recent flashback:*Artificial Retina Made of Organic Photovoltaic Material Lets Blind Rats See… Study in Journal of Neural Engineering: Towards high-resolution retinal prostheses with direct optical addressing and inductive telemetry… Via: UCSD… This post New Wirelessly Powered Scalable Retinal Prosthesis appeared first on Medgadget. ??????? ??????: New Wirelessly Powered Scalable Retinal Prosthesis || ??????: rss || ??????: اسم منتداك
