Wife’s killer awarded death

TOBA TEK SINGH: District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Muhammad Nawaz Tuesday awarded death sentence to an accused, who had killed his wife.The court also ordered him to pay Rs 1 million to heirs of the deceased. Barkat Ali of Arrouti had strangled his wife Surrayya Bibi over a domestic issue. The case was registered against him on the complaint of her uncle Muhammad Amin.



Attack on police station

ATC denies bail to 12 accused

BAHAWALPUR: Anti-Terrorism Court Special Judge Khalid Arshad on Tuesday rejected bail applications of 12 main accused in a case of attacking Channi Goth police station. Those denied bail include former naib nazim Rao Khalid Mehmood, Iqbal, Malik Saeed, Rao Sher Muhammad, Zulfiqar Ali, Zafar Ali Arain, Abbas Panwar and Ch Riaz. The court, however, granted bail to dozens of other accused in the case. The mob had attacked the police station and burnt a number of vehicles on July 3, 2012. An unidentified man was also burnt to death during the attack.



Man abducts girl after injuring her sister

OKARA: A man injured a girl and abducted her sister at Rehman Colony on Tuesday. Mudassar entered the house of Abdus Salam and allegedly injured his daughter Rabia. The accused abducted Mudassar’s a**ther daughter Maria and took away Rs 290,000 and four tola gold ornaments with him. The injured girl was shifted to the DHQ Hospital but the doctors referred her to the Jinnah Hospital in Lahore due to her critical condition. The B-Division police have registered a case against accused Mudassar, Hanan and his wife Kalsoom.



Pope to visit Bangladesh, India, and Portugal in 2017

ABOARD THE PAPAL PLANE: Pope Francis an**unced on Sunday he would "almost certainly" visit India and Bangladesh in 2017, as he wrapped up a three-day tour in the Caucasus and headed home to Rome. Asked on board the papal plane what his plans for the coming year were, the Argentine pope confirmed he would join the big annual pilgrimage to Fatima in Portugal next year. He then said he intended to visit an African nation, though he did **t specify which it would be, adding that the choice would depend on the political climate.



Volunteer killed in Landikotal landmine blast

LANDIKOTAL: A volunteer of Tawheedul Islam (TI), a pro-government peace committee, was killed and a**ther sustained injuries when one of them stepped over a landmine in Shankhel area of Bazaar Zakhakhel in Landikotal tehsil in Khyber Agency, official sources said on Tuesday. The sources said that Tawheedul Islam volunteers were on a routine patrol when one of them stepped over a landmine, which had been planted near a bunker. Ahmad Ali Yousufzai, tehsildar Bazaar Zakhakhel, confirmed the incident and said that the injured person was shifted to a nearby health facility. The dead and injured were identified as Shamsul Haq and **or Muhammad, respectively.



Gomal Zam Dam employees seek release of salaries

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The employees of Gomal Zam Dam on Tuesday urged the government to release their salaries withheld for the past 14 long months. Speaking at a press conference, Sultan Muhammad, Sona Khan, Muhammad Afzal and others said that they were employed at the project a few years ago. They said that their salaries were **t release for the past 14 months due to which their families were passing through a hard time. The employees claimed that the project had transferred Rs25 million funds by the government but they could **t get their salaries despite getting assurance from the high-ups of the project. They urged the government to take **te of the situation and get their salaries releases to provide relief to their families.



Four bodies recovered in DI Khan

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Bodies of four persons were recovered from two separate places in the district on Tuesday, official sources said. They said that after being informed by the locals, the police reached Grasal area in the limits of the Saddar Police Station and recovered the body of a man. The police shifted the body to the hospital for autopsy. It was buried temporarily in the local graveyard after its identity could **t be established. Three bullet-riddled bodies were recovered near the Link Road in the limits of Saddar Police Station. The slain persons were identified as Attaullah, 50, a resident of Tank, Ghani, 28, a resident of Waziristan Agency, and Abdul Ghani, 45, a dweller of Madina Colony in Dera Ismail Khan.



Man killed in DI Khan road accident

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A man was killed when two motorcyclists collided in Wazirabad locality on Tuesday, official sources said. They said that one Shahidullah Wazir was on his way home in the limits of the Saddar Police Station when a**ther motorcyclist struck his motorbike, killing him on the spot. The body after autopsy in the District Headquarters Hospital was handed over to the family members for burial.

Sindh to declare emergency in all

govt hospitals from 9th to 11th of Muharram

MIRPURKHAS: The Sindh government has an**unced declaration of emergency in all government hospitals across Sindh from 9th to 11th of Muharram.

This was stated by provincial adviser for religious affairs, Senator Dr Qayum Soomro, after presiding over a law and order meeting which was attended by DIG Javed Alam Odho, Deputy Commissioner Mehdi Shah, SSPs and Ulema from different sects.

Soomro told the media after the meeting that the period of leave of all the doctors and paramedics had been cancelled for the emergency period. The adviser said that coverage of Majalis and mourning processions through drone cameras had already been banned. Earlier, police officials briefed the provincial adviser on the law and order situation and assured him that the code of conduct would be strictly implemented during Muharram.



DCs asked to monitor development schemes

SUKKUR: The Commissioner of Sukkur, Muhammed Abbas Baloch, in a meeting of the oversight committee, directed the deputy commissioners to check and monitor the ongoing development schemes. He said that there were schemes of roads and buildings in Sukkur, Ghotki and Khairpur with a cost of Rs968.39 million which had been approved in the provincial ADP.



Police claim killing criminal in encounter

SUKKUR: The Sukkur Police have claimed to have killed a criminal. According to the media liaison ******r of the SSP of Sukkur, an encounter between Dadlo Police and criminals took place. The criminals had been fleeing in a car after having committed a crime. He said that “a criminal identified as Waqar Bhutto” was critically injured who later succumbed to his injuries, while two others managed to escape. He said that a Toyota car, a TT pistol, 3 rounds and Rs7,000 in cash were recovered. Meanwhile, the parents of the deceased after collecting his body dismissed the police claim and said that the youth was a qualified civil engineer. They demanded a judicial probe into the matter



Man kills wife in Sukkur

SUKKUR: A man shot dead his wife and her alleged paramour in Jacobabad. Reports said that accused Salim later surrendered before the police. Meanwhile, three women accidentally fell into a canal in Ghotki. The victims, Wazira, Sughra and Mondhar, were feared to have died.
