?LHC celebrations aim to show judiciary functional to dispense justice?

LAHORE: A Full Court of the Lahore High Court was held on Saturday at the Principal Seat of Lahore High Court. It was attended by all the 47 judges of the Lahore High Court.

The main agenda of the Full Court was the forthcoming sesquicentennial celebrations of the historical Lahore High Court.

Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, while chairing the meeting, said that besides being a milestone, the main purpose of holding sesquicentennial celebrations was to reach out to the common man being the ultimate beneficiary of the system of administration of justice and to demonstrate that a competent and functional judiciary was there to dispense justice to the masses.

He said all events which would take place during the sesquicentennial celebrations would enable the common man to understand the past, present and future of the judiciary in Punjab. He also said that bar associations of Punjab would also participate fully in the celebrations. He said the provincial government was also invited for an effective role in this regard.

The sesquicentennial celebrations would commence from **vember 1, when an opening ceremony would be held at the LHC Principal Seat whereby a sesquicentennial flag will be hoisted at the Lahore High Court building and ceremonial release of pigeons and balloons would take place. The Lahore High Court would also hold art and literature contests including photography, oil painting, essay writing, children paintings and old photographs competition. The contests would ensure the participation of educational institutions of the country in the celebrations.

The target date for submissions would be October 30, where after the submissions would be displayed in an exhibition in **vember. People submitting best pieces of art would be given prizes at the final conference to be held on December, 10, 2016. Besides, symposiums will be held at each bench of the Lahore High Court. Districts judiciary in Punjab will reach out to the common people by holding conferences, seminars whereby participation of all sections of society would be ensured. In order to familiarise schoolchildren with the working of courts, the district judiciary will also organise tours of schoolchildren.

District judiciary events would take place on 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th of **vember. Similarly, the Lahore High Court would hold a Law Fest on 26th of **vember and 3rd of December, 2016 which would include holding of talk shows regarding jurisprudence of the court, reminiscing the court, stalwarts of the court, environment and the courts, serving the court and future of the court.

The Lahore High Court would also organise cricket matches during the Cricket Festival.

A Coffee Table Book will also be launched in the first week of December, which would reflect the history of the Lahore High Court, its architecture, stalwart judges, historical judgments and the future vision. Also, a museum/exhibition would be arranged in the first week of December, presenting antique documents and artifacts relating to Lahore High Court. Finally, a 150th Anniversary Conference would be held on 10th of December, which would be attended by a large number of dignitaries from across the country.

All the judges of the Lahore High Court resolved to make the celebrations a successful event. Later in the day, the chief justice also formed 17 committees consisting of judges of the Lahore High Court in connection with the sesquicentennial celebrations.
