The flaws in Indian military: article in re**wned magazine exposes them all

ISLAMABAD/NEW DELHI: An article titled 'Guns and Ghee' in a re**wned international magazine exposed the weaknesses rampant in Indian military and why the country should think twice before opting for surgical strikes in Pakistan.

As tensions rise between arch-rivals and nuclear-armed neighbours India and Pakistan, one can**t help but wonder the prospects of an all-out war between both countries. With India moving heavy artillery across the Line of Control and Pakistan responding befittingly by conducting air force drills on its motorways, the question on everyone's minds weighs--which country has the upper hand militarily?

A recent article in an international magazine highlighted how Indian army has structural weaknesses. For one, its air force consists of fighter jets which are, for the most part, obsolete and may require a lot of time to be upgraded.

Ajai Shukla, an Indian commentator on military matters, has been quoted in the article as saying:-

"Our air defence is in a shocking state. What’s in place is mostly 1970s vintage, and it may take ten years to install the fancy new gear."

The article also mentions how, on paper, the Indian air force is considered as the fourth largest air force in the world yet when it comes to operational capacity, only 60% of their aircraft are fit to fly.

Furthermore, the article also mentions how the Indian military is scandal-prone. Corruption and dissent is rife within the Indian army, which has led to successful ***********s by guerrillas over the years.

"Lately the Indian public has been treated to legal battles between generals over promotions, loud disputes over pay and orders for ******rs to lose weight," read the article.

Regarding the three services in the Indian army, Mr Shukla is again quoted as saying "** service talks to the others, and the civilians in the Ministry of Defence don’t talk to them."

Hence it is safe to say that despite its seemingly impressive numbers, the Indian army seems ** match for the Pakistan army as far as efficiency and capabilities are concerned. The article ends with the apt line:-

"Despite their growing brawn, India’s armed forces still lack a brain".
