CHARSADDA: The Awami National Party (ANP) top leaders on Monday discussed the prevailing domestic and regional situation.ANP chief Asfandyar Wali Khan presided over the meeting at Wali Bagh here.

Those attended the meeting included ANP general secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Senators Shahi Sayed, Baz Muhammad Khan, Member National Assembly Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, former senator Zahid Khan, Bushra Gohar, Jamila Gilani, Arbab Tahir, Wajid Ali Khan, Bashir Khan, Shams Buneri, Kamila Khan, Amir Nawab and Lala Aurangzeb.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, Mian Iftikhar Hussain, ANP’s secretary general, said that the recent hostilities between the Pakistan and Afghanistan, issue of Afghan Refugees, China-Pakistan Eco**mic Corridor Project (CPEC), Census, Panama Leaks and National Action Plan (NAP) were discussed at the meeting.

He said the party chief, Asfandyar Wali, would an**unce the future course of action of the party after the party’s council meeting in Bacha Khan Markaz in Peshawar today. He said that the meeting offered prayers for the victims of district courts Mardan and Mohmand Agency mosque suicide blasts.

“Unfortunately, our relationships with the neighbouring countries including Afghanistan and Iran had been strained in the recent past,” he said. He added the ANP valued national interest and asked the government to sit with the neighbouring countries to resolve the issues and improve the relationships.

About the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) decision to march on Raiwind, the nationalist leader said that Imran Khan was making unwise and childish decisions. He said that the revelations in the Panama Papers were just allegations and there was ** such law in any country to punish a person until he was proved guilty in a court of law.

“Unfortunately Imran Khan wants to punish Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif without any investigation and proofs but he is forgetting that he (Imran) is also named in the Panama Leaks,” he added. He made it clear that ANP was in favour to hold accountable all those named in the Panama Leaks but would **t support punishing anyone without solid proofs.

Criticising the role of media in the suicide attack on a mosque in Mohmand Agency in which 36 persons had been killed and a**ther 31 injured, he said that media did **t give due courage and highlight the attack. “The media overshadowed the Mohmand tragedy, in which 36 persons were killed, by the arrest of a single person in Karachi,” he said in a reference to the arrest of the opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly and Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Khwaja Izharul Hassan in Karachi.

“We can**t remain silent on this discriminatory attitude towards Pakhtuns,” he added.About the repatriation of Afghan refugees, he said that the refugees should be returned with the same respect that they were brought to Pakistan in the first place.
