افتراضي Islamabad mayor wants permanent deployment of staff for polio campaigns

Islamabad: Islamabad’s mayor and chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Sheikh Ansar Aziz has directed the Human Resource Directorate of CDA to permanently deploy dedicated staff for the upcoming polio campaign, and to share a deployment plan for all future campaigns in the city with him too.

The direction was given in a meeting organised to analyse the status of the polio campaign in Islamabad, with PM’s focal person on polio Ayesha Raza Farooq and Ansar Aziz in the chair. The meeting deliberated the challenges faced during the preparedness and conduct of polio campaigns in Islamabad and suggested solutions.

While directing the deployment of permanent human resource for the campaigns, Aziz said any **n-compliance would be dealt with strictly, and stern action would be taken for negligence of duties and lethargic attitude. He made a special mention of the Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) to assist the government in convincing refusal schools during campaigns.

Ayesha Raza highlighted the sensitivity and vulnerability of the city due to multiple factors including continuous mobile population, connection with Rawalpindi and recent sub-optimal polio campaigns in the capital. “It is high time to invoke a sense of urgency among officials of the capital to improve their performance,” she stressed and moved on to highlight the importance of better training and improved interpersonal communication skills of vaccinators to improve interface with caregivers. “Realistic workload on vaccinators and improved micro-planning is a key to reduce missed children during polio campaigns,” Ayesha added.

Dr. Rana Safdar, coordinator of the National Emergency Operations Centre, emphasised reduction of high tur**ver rate of polio workers. He apprised the meeting that as per the indicators of National Emergency Action Plan, it is mandatory to achieve 95% coverage in each polio campaign to meet the target. “Given the target, Islamabad polio teams need extra effort to reach optimum performance level,” he highlighted.

Deputy Commissioner Islamabad also shared his concerns over lack of staff for polio campaigns and absence of proper monitoring system. Presentations on the polio situation were given by officials of CDA and ICT to share current issues and challenges.
