LAHORE:The Supreme Court on Friday adjourned hearing in a suo motu case regarding abduction of children in Punjab for a month and sought a detailed report from the committee, headed by the Punjab advocate general .
The bench, headed by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, heard the matter at the Supreme Court, Lahore Registry. During the proceedings Punjab Advocate General Shakeelur Rehman, Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP), Punjab, Arif Nawaz and other police officials appeared before the bench. The advocate general submitted that two committee members--Supreme Court Bar President Syed Ali Zafar and Asma Jehangir-- were abroad at present. He pleaded the court to allow time for filing the detailed report regarding reasons and prevention of child abduction.
AIGP Arif Nawaz informed the bench that 139 children were missing whereas police authorities had recovered 46 children and **w only 93 cases were outstanding. At this, the bench adjourned further hearing for a month and directed the Punjab advocate general to submit a detailed report on next hearing.
