Cop foils terrorist attack at Shikarpur Imambargah?

SHIKARPUR: Three brave policeman foiled a terrorist attack at an Imambargah in Shikarpur on Tuesday.

The policemen were injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up outside a Khanpur Imambargah. Two suicide bombers were trying to enter the Imambargah where people had gathered for the Eid prayers, police said.

Police and residents, however, were able to prevent the second attack as they stopped the other suicide attacker.Policeman Nazar Muhammad in a TV interview about the incident, which left him without a leg and also damaged his right eye, said at that time almost 5,000 people were offering eid prayers in the Imambargah.

The injured policeman said that he had identified the suicide bomber from a distance and tried to catch him with the help of other policemen. “When I shot the suicide attacker, he blew himself up,” said Nazar Muhammad.

The injured policeman said that he sustained injuries in his eye, stomach, arm and leg. Nazar Muhammad is currently hospitalised ata local hospital in Karachi.IG Sindh AD Khowaja, who visited the blast site, ack**wledged the deed, saying due to the timely action of the brave policemen a bigger tragedy had been averted.A banned organisation Jamaatul Ahrar claimed responsibility for the attack.

Our correspondent adds: Secretary General of Majlis Wahdat-e- Muslimeen Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jaffary on Thursday called on the government to immediately take action against those seminaries and persons named by the suicide bomber, who was held before he could blow himself up in Shikarpur on the Eid day.

In a statement, the MWM leader said the suicide bomber had confessed to have been trained and financed by certain seminaries and handled by some figures. “The government must initiate immediate action against such seminaries and persons to show its intentions and commitment to sincerely deal with the menace of terrorism,” he **ted.He said that lasting peace in Pakistan was possible only after strictly following the National Action Plan and dealing with training camps of terrorists and militants.
