Nangarhar police chief killed in bomb blast
PESHAWAR: The Nangarhar police chief was killed on Sunday in a bomb blast claimed by the Afghan Taliban. Nangarhar gover**r’s spokesman Attaullah Khugiyani told the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) that provincial police chief Zrawar Khan Zahid was on a visit of Hisarak district to monitor military operation when the explosion occurred.
Sources in Hisarak said that an improvised explosive device planted in a security checkpoint went off, leaving Zrawar Khan Zahid dead. Other security personnel also suffered casualties, the sources said. Meanwhile, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the blast and their spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said that after a blast in Sargardan area in Hisarak, their fighters attacked the police. He claimed that police chief Zrawar Khan Zahid, a local police commander Munir Himmat, and 17 more police personnel were killed and many more injured.The deceased had recently been appointed as the police chief of Nangarhar.
