افتراضي Efforts on to ensure good governance in KP

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Sunday underlined the need for collective Efforts to have a pro-poor system of governance, corruption-free public dealings, supremacy of merit and getting rights of the province.

He said **-one knew when and where projects would be initiated under the China-Pakistan Eco**mic Corridor (CPEC). “It seems the entire amount of 36 billion dollars is being spent in Punjab alone,” he added.

He was talking to a delegation of the National Management College Lahore, said a handout. To a question, Chief Minister Pervez Khattak said that a true and successful system was the one under which institutions worked efficiently and there was ** political interference.

“When I became the chief minister, public sectors institutions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were in total disarray,” he maintained.He added that he took it upon himself to overhaul the system and made the public sectors institutions subservient to the public. He said his government introduced a set of legislations to ensure transparency in governance.

He referred to the Right to Information, Right to Services and Conflict of Interest laws that would eliminate corruption in the province. Pervez Khattak also talked about reforms in education and health sectors, adding that a major portion of resources were diverted to these sectors.

He said that the government Efforts in these sectors led to a visible change. “Our Efforts were resisted by the agents of status quo, but my government remained committed to introducing reforms in all public sectors institutions,” the chief minister added.

Regarding police and Thana culture, the chief minister said that police in the province was politicised before his government. “Our government has depoliticised the police and changed the Thana culture,” he asserted.

He said the reforms in the Police Department were followed by necessary legislation. “My government depoliticised the police and introduced a system of checks and balances to make the police accountable,” the chief minister **ted. “There are safety commissions at district, regional and provincial level so that the misuse of powers could be taken care of and the element of the accountability is visible.”
