LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif Saturday met Turk President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at President House, Istanbul, and discussed issues of mutual interests with him. According to a handout, the chief minister paid tributes to the great leadership of Recep Tayyip Erdogan in foiling the coup attempt last month and said he faced the situation with courage and steadfastness and on his call Turk people came out to defend democracy and thwarted the conspiracy. He said Turk people and democracy won under leadership of Erdogan. He said it was a conspiracy against development of Turkey which Turkish people foiled. Shahbaz congratulated Erdogan over thwarting the coup attempt. He said failure of the conspiracy against democracy in Turkey is a proof of the fact that Turkish people loved their leader Erdogan and the democratic system. Shahbaz said Allah has rewarded Erdogan for his selfless service to the people. Erdogan said coup was an evil attempt to derail progress, however, it was foiled by the grace of Allah and power of the people. He thanked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Pakistani people for supporting Turkish leadership. He said he still has pleasant memories of the hospitality of the people of Lahore during his visit. Meanwhile, Shahbaz Saturday called upon Turkish Prime Minister Bin Ali Yildirim at Prime Minister House in Istanbul and discussed matters of mutual interest and Pak-Turk relations. According to the handout, Shahbaz congratulated Yildrim and people over foiling of the coup attempt last month. The enemy of Turkey is enemy of Pakistan. He said he was grieved over recent incidents of terrorism in Turkey. He said terrorism has become an international issue and there is a need to make collective efforts for elimination of this menace. He extended an invitation to Turk Prime Minister Bin Ali Yildirim on behalf of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to visit Pakistan and said he has also expressed best wishes to Turk prime minister. Turkish PM, while accepting invitation, said he will soon visit Pakistan to meet his dear brethren. He also appreciated the solidarity expressed by Pakistan to Turk leadership during coup attempt in Turkey and appreciated role of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, parliament and people of Pakistan. Yildrim rang up Turk Health Minister Recip Akdogan and said Shahbaz is like his brother and Punjab is his second home. Meanwhile, Shahbaz Saturday held a meeting with a delegation of Housing Development Administration Turkey, a world-re**wned Turk institution in housing sector in Istanbul. The delegation expressed interest in investment in housing sector, especially construction of low-cost houses in Punjab. It was agreed at the meeting that experts of TOKI will visit Punjab in October and finalize project of construction of quality low-cost houses for low-income families in province. Shahbaz said Punjab government is implementing a comprehensive programme for provision of shelter to low-income segments and construction of quality low-cost houses and their provision to low-income families is its priority. He said housing sector is making rapid progress in Pakistan, especially in Punjab, and there is a vast scope of investment in this sector. Shahbaz proposed setting up a joint committee of Punjab government and TOKI through which Punjab government will benefit from skill of TOKI and the capacity of institution concerned will be enhanced. TOKI delegation appreciated vision of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif regarding construction of low-cost quality houses. Meanwhile, Shahbaz held a meeting with heads of investment companies and business houses in Istanbul. Turkish investors and businessmen expressed interest in investment in sectors in Pakistan, especially in Punjab. The chief minister invited them to invest in Pakistan including Punjab and said it has vast investment opportunities. Shahbaz said Pakistan today is safer than before. He said Pakistan’s eco**my has substantially improved due to effective measures taken by the government. He said energy crisis will be overcome to a large extent by 2017. He said it is a golden opportunity for Turkish investors to benefit from investment opportunities in Pakistan, especially Punjab.
