CM meets Turkish health minister; orders early steps to cope with rain damages
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif met Turkish Health Minister Recep Akdag in Istanbul on Friday and it was agreed to improve the healthcare system in the Punjab with the cooperation of Turkey. The chief minister paid tributes to the Turkish leadership and unprecedented struggle of the Turkish people in foiling the coup last month. He said in the past tanks stopped Azans in Turkey but this time Azans blocked the way of tanks and forced them to flee. He said the enemy of Turkey is the enemy of Pakistan and enemy of Recep Erdogan is enemy of Shahbaz. According to a handout, talking to CM Punjab, the Turkish Health Minister said that people of Turkey still remember the historic role played by Muslims of the subcontinent in the freedom struggle of Turkey. He said that Pakistani leadership and government expressed complete solidarity with Turkish government and people during the coup attempt in Turkey last month and Pakistani parliament is the first parliament that condemned the coup in Turkey. Similarly, he said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif extended support to Turk leadership and people at this difficult time for which they are thankful to them. Recep Akdag said hearts of people and Turkey beat together. Turkish health minister cancelled all his engagements to meet Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. During the meeting between Punjab chief minister and Turkish health minister it was agreed that a special delegation of Turkish healthcare experts will visit Punjab next month and submit recommendations after complete review of healthcare system in the province. Shahbaz said an effective healthcare system will be evolved in Punjab in the light of recommendations of Turkish health experts for providing relief to patients in real sense. He said his visit to Turkey will result in tremendous increase in promotion between Punjab and Turkey in various sectors. Meanwhile, a ceremony for signing a memorandum of understanding between Punjab health department and Turkish health ministry was held at the ****** of Turkish Health Ministry in Istanbul. Shahbaz was chief guest while Recep Akdag was also present. Punjab Minister Sanaullah and Eyup Gumus signed the MoU under which Turkish health ministry will extend cooperation for uplift of healthcare system and public healthcare programme of Punjab health department. Turkish health ministry will also share its experiences and expertise for improvement of public health facilities in Punjab while health ministry of Turkey and Punjab government will promote cooperation in public health sector. Public Health Institute of Turkey will provide technical assistance in reforms and modernization of Institute of Public Health Punjab while cooperation will also be promoted in the safe disposal of hospital waste. Speaking on the occasion, Shahbaz said agreements signed today will be a milestone in the provision of modern healthcare facilities to the people of Punjab. He said benefit will be taken from the model of Turkey for improving healthcare system in the province. He said health facilities of the level of Turkey will be extended to the patients in hospitals of Punjab and the agreement signed today will help in the uplift of healthcare system of the province. Turkish Health Minister Recep Akdag said all-out cooperation will be extended to Punjab for improvement of healthcare system. He also thanked Pakistani leadership and people for expressing solidarity with Turk government and people during coup attempt in Turkey last month. Punjab Minister Sanaullah, MNA Pervaiz Malik, Shaista Pervaiz Malik, Kh. Ahmed Hassan and members of Pakistani delegation were also present on the occasion. Meanwhile, Shahbaz met Speaker Grand National Assembly of Turkey Ismail Kahraman in Istanbul. Matters of mutual interest and bilateral relations were discussed in the meeting. The chief minister said that people of Turkey have set a historic example by defending democracy during coup attempt and have proved their commitment to this system. He said Turk people have also endorsed the concept of rule of people through democracy. He said the fact that Turk people stood up to foil the coup prove that they support policies of their great leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He said Turk people saved democracy by lying down in front of tanks. He said with the grace of Allah and the efforts of Turk president, prime minister and people, democracy remained save in Turkey. He said Pakistani people consider Turkey as their second home while people of Turkey consider Pakistan as their second home. He said both Pakistan and Turkey are facing menace of terrorism. He said terrorists are common enemy of the nations and collective efforts are needed to cope with them. Grand National Assembly Speaker Ismail Kahraman said people of Turkey are democracy-loving and have complete confidence in leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He thanked Pakistan for expressing solidarity with Turk people in foiling conspiracy against democracy. He said people of Turkey and Pakistan are bound in strong relations. He said Shahbaz has done unprecedented work for progress of Punjab. He said the reforms introduced by Shahbaz for welfare of people are commendable. Both the leaders also raised the slogans of ‘Pak-Turk friendship Zindabad’. Meanwhile, Shahbaz along with international leaders attended inaugural ceremony of Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge in Istanbul. He was given special invitation by Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the ceremony. The participation of Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif along with presidents and prime ministers of different countries in the function reflect the deep friendship between Pakistan and Turkey. Meanwhile, Shahbaz condemned blast near a police station in Sarank province of Turkey. He expressed sorrow over loss of lives and prayed for early recovery of the injured. Shehbaz congratulated Turk President Recep Tayyip Erdogan other leaders over construction of the most modern bridge and said extraordinary progress made by Turkey under his dynamic leadership was an example for other nations. Meanwhile, Shahbaz Friday addressed a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Floods at Civil Secretariat through video link from Istanbul, and reviewed in detail the situation arising due to heavy rains in Lahore and other cities as well as measures for disposal of rainwater. He directed Cabinet Committee on Floods to perform its duties efficiently during monsoon season. According to a handout, Shahbaz directed that administration, agencies concerned with relief activities and elected representatives should remain in the field and take necessary measures for minimizing problems of the people. He expressed sorrow over death of two girls due to collapse of roof in Manawan and electrocution in Sabzazar. The chief minister expressed satisfaction over the measures taken for the drainage of the water during rains the other day.
